Energy Smart Business

Arial photo taken at night of the central business district of Perth in Western Australia Best practice energy management in the Western Australia business sector is a major objective of the Sustainable Energy Development Office.

Most businesses still consider energy use as a fixed cost, but there are many opportunities to achieve financial savings and increased competitiveness through better energy management.

By becoming energy smart, your business will also be helping to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions.

In energy intensive industries, small increases in energy efficiency can result in large savings in greenhouse gas emissions and improve competitiveness. Small and medium enterprises also have the opportunity to save money as well as help the environment by better energy management.

Another involves using renewable energy.

All Western Australian businesses can purchase accredited renewable energy through the GreenPower Program. Further information on GreenPower is available here.

Funding and Grants

The Sustainable Energy Development Office provides funds to some Western Australian businesses to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Western Australia. See the Funding and Grants section for further information.

Under the Regional Energy Efficiency Program, subsidised professional energy audits are being progressively offered to small businesses and organisations in regional areas. Audits have already been carried out in the Midwest and Gascoyne regions.

Energy Audits are being planned for the Kimberley and Pilbara regions during November 2009 and small businesses in those regions can now register their interest in the energy audit program. Registration forms must be received by 2 November 2009.

Full details of the program of the audit program, including eligibility criteria, are outlined in the programs’ frequently asked questions.
