Operation Tips
The most effective way to obtain maximum performance from your solar hot water system is to make efficient use of hot water in your home.
Do jobs requiring hot water in the morning where possible. This allows the water remaining in the tank to be reheated by the sun and reduces expensive boosting.
The recommended setting for the booster thermostat is 60°C. Higher settings will increase the amount of energy used for boosting.
For Perth, an appropriately sized solar hot water system will give plenty of hot water all summer without boosting - turn your booster off during this time of the year.
In autumn, spring and sunny winter days you can minimise running costs by only boosting for a limited period in late afternoon and evening, if the water has not reached the required temperature with solar energy.
Conserve hot water by using it efficiently.
Make sure you follow the manufacturer's recommendations for maintenance of your solar hot water system.
If your system requires a sacrificial anode in the storage tank, ensure it is replaced at the appropriate intervals.
